The lower the VLT, the darker it looks. For heat, look at IRR and TSER.

How to choose

Darker is not always cooler

Darkness (VLT) only tells you how much light gets through. Heat is measured by TSER, the total solar energy rejected, and most of that heat is infrared.

For example: INDIUM 40 PLATINUM (VLT 32%) is much lighter than INDIUM 80 BLACK IR (VLT 9%), yet rejects more heat: TSER 75% against 70%.

The same number is not always the same darkness either: INDIUM 40 PLATINUM VLT 32%, INDIUM 40 SILVER VLT 32%, INDIUM 40 BLACK IR VLT 28%.

For the windshield choose the lightest: INDIUM 20 PLATINUM (VLT 69%). Darker types go on the side and rear windows.

VLT — light through (low = dark) TSER — total heat rejected
Platinum 60 VLT 18% TSER 91%
Platinum 80 VLT 10% TSER 83%
Silver 80 VLT 5% TSER 81%
